Let’s go Monday!

It’s Monday, you know what to do! Head on over to Life of Meg and get involved in Mingle Monday! I just love all the ladies that participate in MM, I get to read awesome new bloggers each week and sometimes I even get new readers here too!

I had a really nice weekend. Saturday I worked at the salon, but got off work early, so I took a 12+ mile bike ride. It was awesome actually riding outside. I normally ride inside at spin class, so feeling the wind in my face, and checking out the gorgeous scenery was a nice change. Check out this beautiful photo I snapped at sunset on my way back near the lake I am going to be swimming in at my triathlon next June!

I love Almaden lake. I run there a lot because the creek trail is so pretty. Here is another photo Billy took on a walk at the lake this past summer. So amazingly gorgeous, right?

I got to see my great friend Sharon at her Holiday House Warming party. It was nice being social and seeing some old friends. I like to consider myself a homebody, and tend to stay in most weekends, so this little excursion to the social side of life was a welcome respite.

Sunday was a quick day at the salon, so I made a trip to Target, one of my most favorite places the shop. How can you not love Target, they have everything! I got a package of 4 rolls of wrapping paper, a whole mess of bows and name tags for $9! I took my bounty home and wrapped gifts. Normally, people would listen to Christmas music and drink hot cocoa while doing this. I however, watched old episodes of Bones and ate Wheat Thins. Ahhh, gift wrapping with serial killers and their dead victims, now that’s the stuff.

So that was my weekend, what was yours like?

Monday, funday!

Hey friends, it’s that time again- MINGLE MONDAY!! Meg is once again hosting, so head over to Megnificent Life and join up 🙂

I had a very busy weekend! I took a quick road trip to southern California with Tiffany for the NPC Excalibur fitness competition. She was competing, I did hair and makeup. The show was great, Tiffany looked her very best, posed amazingly, and totally rocked her time on stage. She came in 6th, which is very respectable for her 2nd ever competition. She also had a photo shoot on Sunday with Natalie Minh, a super great photographer who was an international figure competitor herself, so she really knows fitness. The shoot was for a catalog for Powertec fitness equipment, so we got to go to the Powertec headquarters and see their 2011 equipment. I can’t wait to see the finished photos and get my tear sheet for my portfolio! Road trips, and most travel in general, always exhausts me and makes me stick very close to home for a few days afterward. I am so OCD that the packing process makes me anxious, and snappy, so poor Billy always gets the raw deal whenever I go anywhere. He is such a good hubby for putting up with my cranky pants. All in all, I am so happy to be home, doing laundry, running errands and getting back to my normal schedule.

Hope you have an amazing Monday!

We’ve got a winner!

I am back in the cool, wet weather of the Bay Area from sunny and warm Phoenix! I brought home a new fascination with body building and fitness, I guess you can say I caught the bug, and now I want to be a part of this whole new world! Oh no, don’t worry, I won’t be competing, I just want to figure out a way to be involved by doing hair and makeup for the competitors at different fitness events all around the country. I am scheming, and I have big plans, just you wait!

You may think of body building and immediately see Arnold Schwarzenegger or some pumped up manly woman, but it’s not all about the big muscles and the meat heads. Well, there is a lot of that, especially in the body building classes, but there are also amazingly beautiful women who have lovely toned and muscular bodies in the figure classes, and lean, toned and beautiful women in the bikini classes. I was especially interested in the bikini division because my friend Tiffany was competing in that class, so I knew the most about it.

Tiffany blew us all away by placing 5th (top 5 placings were qualified for national level shows) out of 13 in her very first show. Frankly, I think she looked amazing and should have placed top 3, but the judging is weird in bikini, and you never know what they will be looking for. Tiffany looked absolutely fantastic after 4 months of preparations, diet, exercise, posing lessons, and trips back and forth to Arizona to work with her trainers at AZ Pro Physiques to get ready for the NPC Western Regionals. I have never seen someone with more dedication, self-control, willpower and enthusiasm for something so difficult to achieve. She wasn’t feeling all that hot come show day, but she sure looked amazing!

This collage shows Tiffany the night before the competition with her spray tan all aglow, day of hair and makeup, on stage in one of her poses, and with her trophy at the awards ceremony.

This is 4 of the top 5 girls, the blonde in the pink on the far left didn’t make it. That skinny little girl in the center won 1st place. I didn’t agree. She was far too thin and bony looking to have won 1st, but once again, the judges are all looking for something specific and it always changes.

This is our gorgeous, amazing, rockstar 5th place winner!! It was a very long day for her! We were up at 6am (after not sleeping well for 4-5 hours), at the venue by 8am, and this was taken around 11pm that night!! We decided show makeup is a cross between Jersey Shore and Oompa Loompa, it’s a real winner of a combo, don’tcha think?

Also, it’s Mingle Monday! (Tuesday by my clock saying almost 1am, but I haven’t gone to bed yet, so it doesn’t count! Make sure you stop by Life of Meg and check out the awesome bloggers who participate in Mingle Monday.

I don’t care if Monday’s blue

Wow guys, the weather where I live went from 95 degrees a few days ago to chilly and raining on Sunday! Because of the new doggy, I got to take a walk in the rain yesterday, something I haven’t willingly done in years. Not that I was entirely willing to do it yesterday, but duty (or dooty ha ha) calls.

I usually enjoy the rain…on one condition; I don’t have to do anything in it. I don’t like driving in the rain because everyone becomes grannies or fast and furious drivers. I don’t like being out of the nice, warm and cozy house where I could be cuddled up on the sofa with a blanket and a good book. I especially don’t like to walk in it because it soaks my hair and clothes and chills me to the bone.

But for this face,

I would do pretty much anything. It’s puppy love ❤

I also got to go for an evening walk with the pup and with the hubby! Billy isn’t really all that active. He just got a new bike, so he’s been riding a little bit, but he isn’t the kind of guy who will suggest a brisk stroll around the block, a hike, or pretty much anything with exercise, so it was a treat for me to get to walk hand in gloved hand with my man and our dog. I can see this becoming a tradition whenever possible, I just loved it!

Meg, of Life of Meg, is hosting her fabulous Mingle Monday over on her blog, you should stop by and check it out, maybe find a few new blogs to follow. I have been totally inspired by a few blogs I have found recently through Mingle Monday, so hopefully you get some new reading material that inspires and enlightens you also!

Meg Mingles on Mondays

I love the blogging community, but sometimes it can seem like that cool clique in high school that was just out of my social strata. I considered myself a nerd, and always craved acceptance into such a group, and to actually feel comfortable being with those people. Blogging gives me the same anxieties. I want to connect with other bloggers, share jokes, comments, giveaways and weekly posts, but feel disconnected from the the blogs I read. I have my real life friends who blog that I can do this with, but I feel so little and insignificant when I see a cool blog with hundreds of followers that all leave comments regularly. Dude, comments = love in my book, so show some, right?!

Of course I was instantly drawn to Life of Meg when I noticed a comment left by a random blogger on Michelle‘s blog this week, mentioning this “Mingle Monday” post.  Being the cyber stalker I am, I cruised by the blog this trend originated at, and was hooked. You want more followers? Yes! You want to connect with them? Hell, yes! You want to find cool blogs to follow in turn? Sign me up! I followed Meg, joined the mingle party, and checked out a bunch of new blogs that have already made it to my browser bookmarks tab. I don’t know if I was a little too late to gain any new blog followers, it being Tuesday evening, but I gave myself more reading material and inspiration via my new favorite blogs, and hopefully new bloggy friends to connect with 🙂
